An Awami League activist named Tipu Sheikh, 50, was hacked to death in Dighalia upazila of Khulna today.

Locals said the deceased was attacked by rivals.

First he was hit with a brick when he was returning home from the market. Then he was hacked repeatedly.

The attackers also severed his leg and then fled the scene.

Tipu Sheikh died on his way to the hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police of the district confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

Manash Chandra Das, the officer-in charge of Dighalia police station, said a drive was on to catch the attackers.
