Green Day takes a jab at Elon Musk

Green Day delivered a politically charged performance on 19 January at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium, marking their South African debut during the Calabash 2025 festival.
While performing their 2004 hit 'American Idiot', frontman Billie Joe Armstrong altered the lyrics, replacing "redneck agenda" with "Elon agenda," in a jab at the billionaire Elon Musk. The remark follows recent controversy surrounding Musk's behaviour at Trump's second inauguration, where a hand gesture sparked online backlash.
This isn't Green Day's first critique of Musk. In 2023, they called him "the machine" after he criticised their altered lyrics targeting MAGA. The 2004 album, 'American Idiot' topped the Billboard charts when it first came out, selling over seven million copies and securing a Grammy award.
