Litton and Tanzid shine as Dhaka record their first win in style

Dhaka Capitals secured their first win of the tournament in emphatic fashion, defeating Durbar Rajshahi by a record margin of 149 runs on 7 January at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The victory not only ended Dhaka's six-match losing streak but also set the record for the largest winning margin in BPL history, surpassing the previous record of 119 runs.

Opting to bat first, Dhaka's opening duo of Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan Tamim put on a dazzling display, propelling their team to a monumental 254 for 1—the highest total in BPL history, eclipsing the previous record of 239. The pair added a staggering 241 runs for the first wicket, the highest partnership in the tournament's history for any wicket, breaking the previous best of 201 runs by Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum in 2017.

Litton, who missed out on a spot in the Champions Trophy squad earlier in the day, responded with the bat like a man on a mission. He hammered his maiden T20 century, finishing unbeaten on 125 from 55 balls, laced with 10 fours and 9 sixes. Litton reached his century off just 44 balls, and his innings now ranks as the fourth-highest individual score in BPL history. Remarkably, he opened the innings and ended it with a six, showcasing his dominance throughout.

Tanzid matched Litton's brilliance with an exceptional 108 off 64 balls, featuring 6 fours and 8 sixes. This marked his second T20 century, following his 116-run knock in the previous season. Tanzid's dismissal brought Sabbir Rahman to the crease, who added a quick 7 not out off 2 balls.

Rajshahi's bowlers endured a forgettable outing, with only pacer Shafiul Islam managing to pick up a wicket. Taskin Ahmed was economical, but the rest of the attack struggled to contain Dhaka's relentless onslaught.

In reply, Rajshahi's chase faltered almost immediately. By the end of the powerplay, they had lost four wickets, leaving their fans to trickle out of the stands early. Rajshahi were eventually bowled out for a mere 105 in 15.2 overs, unable to mount any meaningful resistance against Dhaka's bowlers. Ryan Burl was the lone bright spot, scoring 47 off 32 balls with 9 boundaries. None of the other batters crossed 20 runs, with seven players failing to reach double figures and four departing for ducks.

Dhaka's bowling attack, led by Abu Jayed, Mukidul Islam, Mosaddek Hossain, and Farmanullah, all took two wickets each, dismantling Rajshahi with precision.

The match also witnessed several historic moments. It was only the second time in BPL history that two batters scored centuries in the same innings, the first instance involving Alex Hales and Rilee Rossouw for Rangpur in 2019. Additionally, this marked the first time two Bangladeshi batters achieved this feat in any T20 match.

For Litton, it was a night to remember, as he not only surpassed his previous highest T20 score of 85 but also firmly established himself in the BPL record books. Tanzid, meanwhile, reinforced his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Bangladeshi cricket.
