UK govt, Nacom to hold workshop on climate change reporting tomorrow in Cox’s Bazar

A day-long training workshop on strengthening climate change and conservation reporting and negotiation insights is going to be held at Nishorgo Community Center, Himchari National Park, Cox's Bazar tomorrow (11 January).

Over 40 journalists from Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khargachair will take part in the training workshop.

The Climate Ambition Support Alliance (CASA) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) of the UK Government, in collaboration with Nature Conservation Management (NACOM), will organise the event under "Strengthening the Negotiators: Empowering Bangladeshi Stakeholders in the UNFCCC Negotiations" project, reads a press statement issued today (10 January).

The daylong workshop is set to be organised in association with The Climate Watch, a dedicated news portal reporting on climate change.

The workshop aims to provide participants with a robust understanding of the UNFCCC framework, international climate negotiation processes, and key thematic issues such as adaptation, mitigation, just transition, climate financing, loss and damage, and gender mainstreaming, reads the press statement.

By equipping journalists with these insights, the training seeks to enable them to effectively report on Bangladesh's climate challenges and successes, advocate for stronger international support, and contribute to building a cohesive narrative that amplifies the nation's voice in global climate negotiations.

The training workshop is designed to empower journalists to play a critical role in advancing Bangladesh's national climate priorities by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to report effectively on climate change and global negotiations.

Chaired by SM Munjurul Hannan Khan, executive director of Nacom, the inaugural ceremony of the workshop is scheduled to be addressed by ASM Marjan Nur, climate and environment adviser of Foreign, Common Wealth and Development Office at British High Commission, Dhaka, as chief guest.

Besides, Md Nurul Islam, the divisional forest officer of Cox's Bazar South, and Md Maruf Hossain, the divisional forest officer of Cox's Bazar North, will join as special guests.

Shahnewaz Riton, journalist & lead research of The Climate Watch, Saleh Noman, executive editor, The Daily People's View, Shamsuddin Illus, bureau chief of The Business Standard, ASM Suza Uddin, independent journalist & IVLP alumni, ASM Marjan Nur, SM Munjurul Hannan Khan and Md Shafiqur Rahman, regional coordination of Namcom, are scheduled to conduct different sessions during the workshop.
