While extortion and land grabbing remain unabated in the country, only the identities of those involved have changed, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Convenor Hasnat Abdullah said today (21 December).
While addressing a meeting with scholars and religious leaders in Cumilla's Debidwar, Hasnat urged them to speak out against corruption and extortion in mosques, advocating for truth and opposing falsehood.
Speaking about the ongoing propaganda regarding attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, he emphasised the need for the religious community to remain vigilant to prevent anyone from inciting communal conflict.

Hasnat stressed that Bangladesh has traditionally been a country of communal harmony, where minorities are the safest.
"We can ensure their safety better than anyone else."
Hasnat also held a meeting with representatives of the student movement from 15 unions and one municipality at the same venue.
At the meeting, he discussed urgent actions regarding corruption in various union councils, irregularities in education and healthcare, as well as the construction and repair of roads, bridges, and culverts.
