132 children, 11 women killed during July uprising: Ministry

At least 132 children and adolescents along with 11 women were killed during the mass uprising that took place in July-August period, an estimate from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs said.
Adviser to the ministry Sharmin S Murshid confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo today (19 December).
On the other hand, the Directorate General of Health Services said on Sunday (15 December) that information about the death of 865 people have been included in their database.
However, the death toll has been shown on the DGHS website as 860 as of yesterday (18 December). Among them, 682 people were brought dead to the hospitals.

Among the dead, 104 were killed in Barishal, 120 in Chattogram, 68 in Khulna, 74 in Mymensingh, 54 in Rajshahi, 61 in Rangpur and 32 were killed in Sylhet.
According to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the women who had been killed include Maya Islam, Meherun Nesa and nine others.
Ministry officials said families of 105 martyred children were invited to receive financial assistance and honour during the celebrations of World Childrens' Day on 7 October.
However, 83 families attended the event to receive the assistance. Later, families of four other martyred children informed through journalists that their names had not been included in the list.
Also another 23 families of children who were killed during the uprising were identified through various sources.
Finally, the ministry sent a later to the Health Services Department under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning to include the names of these 27 martyred children in the list.
According to the Health Directorate, 682 among the 865 martyrs were brought dead to the hospitals.
Another 183 people died while receiving treatment at hospitals. Among the injured, 15,659 people were admitted into hospitals.
Among those who were brought dead to the hospitals, 224 were taken to government hospitals while 43 were taken to private hospitals.
Among those who had died while receiving treatment, 85 died in Dhaka.
Among the injured, 555 became physically disabled, among whom 490 were from Dhaka only, said the Directorate.
According to the Directorate, a whopping 7,378 among the 15,659 martyrs were from Dhaka only.
Among the 865 people whose names are on the database, 352 are from Dhaka, the Health Directorate estimate showed.
