11 CUET students suspended for six months over ragging allegations

The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has suspended 11 students for six months from all academic activities following allegations of ragging.
The decision was announced yesterday (11 December) through 11 separate notices signed by Md Mahbubul Alam, secretary of the students' discipline committee and director of the student welfare department.
The suspended students are from the Civil Engineering department of the 2022–23 academic year.

According to the notices, the incident occurred on 5 November, around 10:30pm, when several first-year students from the 2023 batch were allegedly harassed outside CUET's main gate, near Imam Ghazzali College. The disciplinary action was based on the findings of an investigation committee formed to probe the incident.
The notices further stated that the 278th meeting of the students' discipline committee deemed such behaviour a violation of university regulations. Based on the investigation report and subsequent hearings, the allegations against the 11 students were proven beyond doubt, resulting in their suspension from all academic activities for six months.
However, as per Section 22 of the university's code of conduct, the suspended students can appeal the decision to the Chairman of the Academic Council within 15 days.
Md. Saiful Islam, deputy director of the student welfare department, stated, "After reviewing the investigation report and individual hearings, we issued the suspension orders. The administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy against ragging and substance abuse. Anyone found involved will face strict disciplinary actions."
