Pathao Car back on Dhaka’s streets

Pathao Cars has officially resumed its services with almost 2,000 BRTA enlisted cars after a three-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pathao has collaborated with the E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (eCAB) to develop and implement safety protocols based on the technical guidance issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to ensure the safest mode of transportation, reads a press release.

As part of the new safety measures, all existing and new drivers are being trained to follow proper procedures for ride-sharing, which include separating the driver's seat with a clear plastic covering; encouraging passengers to sit in the backseat to minimise contact; and educating drivers to check their temperature daily and get medical help if they are feeling unwell.

The accounts of partners and passengers who confirm they are unwell will be suspended until they submit a medical certificate to prove they are Covid-19 free.

Other measures include educating passengers and drivers to disinfect their hands, arms, and elbows using sanitisers or rinse them with soap before and after each ride; instructing drivers to roll down the windows often to make sure that the interior of the car is fully ventilated; and training drivers to use disinfectants on seat covers and other parts of the car after each trip is completed.

Drivers are being provided face masks, hair covers, gloves, disinfectants, and hand sanitisers in partnership with ACI and Mr Hygiene, the press release adds.

Furthermore, Pathao is collaborating with government bodies by providing 24/7 contact tracing support. It is encouraging everyone to prioritise digital payments over cash and has introduced the "Covid-19 Safety Checklist" on the app to provide education about safety, as well as to make sure both passengers and drivers are taking all safety precautions.

In a statement, Pathao CEO Hussain M Elius said, "During the initial period of the Covid-19 crisis, it was incredibly heart-warming to see our communities come together with a collective sense of responsibility. All of us still have a role to play for the safety of ourselves and the safety of our community.

"As we learn to live in this new normal, Pathao is committed to continuing to help you move around, safely," he added.

Pathao has also reduced fares and increased the commissions to 90 percent for its drivers.
