Dhaka University (DU) has launched a shuttle bus service on a three-month trial basis to ease student commute on campus.

DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan officially inaugurated the shuttle bus service at a ceremony held on the university campus on Thursday (27 November).

The service aims to alleviate transportation challenges for students moving between various departments, residential halls, and other facilities.

Professor Dr Niaz said although the shuttle bus service has a limited capacity, it has been introduced to facilitate students' internal movement on campus.

He extended his heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in the initiative.

Emphasising the importance of proper supervision, maintenance, and control of the service, he urged that all stakeholders, including students, must play their part in ensuring its success.

He also mentioned that if the pilot project proves successful in improving campus transportation, it could be expanded in the future.

DU Pro VC (Admin) Professor Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, Proctor Dr Saifuddin Ahmed, and other university officials were present at the event.

The shuttle buses are non-AC minibuses, and they will operate from 7am-9pm on three specific routes across the campus.

The routes are designed to cover key locations such as academic buildings, student halls, and other prominent points within the university:

Route 1: Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall to Nilkhet Intersection (via Amar Ekushey Hall, Shahidullah Hall, Curzon Hall, Mokarram Bhaban, Science Annex Bhaban, TSC, Arts Building, and Mall Chattar).

Route 2: Nilkhet Intersection to Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall (via Mall Chattar, Business Faculty, Lecture Theater Building, Modhur Canteen, Central Library, Fine Arts Faculty, TSC, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, and Curzon Hall).

Route 3: Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall to Nilkhet Intersection (via Amar Ekushey Hall, Shahidullah Hall, Curzon Hall, Mokarram Bhaban, Science Annex Bhaban, Jagannath Hall, SM Hall, Fuller Road, and Mall Chattar).
