Wasa excavation damages Titas pipeline; gas supply suspended in Gulshan-Badda areas
According to Kazi Mohammad Saidul Hasan, general manager (operations) at Titas Gas, there was ongoing work by Wasa in the area, which caused the disconnection of the gas pipeline. Efforts are being made to restore supply as quickly as possible.
Gas supply has been suspended in parts of Gulshan and Badda after a Titas gas pipeline was damaged during excavation work by the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa).
According to a Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution emergency notice shared by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources today (3 May), the pipeline was damaged on the Gulshan-Badda Link Road, prompting authorities to shut off valves to prevent potential accidents and carry out repair work.
As a result, gas supply remains disrupted in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and adjacent areas, the notice said, apologising for the temporary inconvenience.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Kazi Mohammad Saidul Hasan, general manager (operations) at Titas Gas, said the main transmission line was shut down after the incident, leading to supply disruptions across the affected areas.
"There was ongoing work by Wasa in the area, which caused the disconnection of the gas pipeline. Repair work is underway and efforts are being made to restore supply as quickly as possible," he added.
The official further said, "Overall gas supply in the capital remains sufficient, though some areas may experience low pressure due to illegal connections. Even though we disconnect illegal lines, the issue persists. We need stronger support from the government to address this."
