The High Court dismissed a writ petition today (25 November) filed by former NBR member and VAT Appellate Tribunal president, Matiur Rahman, seeking permission to travel abroad.

The bench of Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Mubina Asaf rejected the petition, declaring it "not pressed."

Matiur's lawyer, Advocate SM Shamim Hossain, confirmed the decision to the media.

Matiur filed the petition earlier to lift the travel ban imposed on him. In his plea, he named the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman and others as respondents.

On 24 June, the court imposed a travel ban on Matiur Rahman, his first wife, Narsingdi's Raipur Upazila Chairman Layla Kaniz Lucky, and their son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnob.

The ban was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Asams Joglul Hossain upon a request from ACC Deputy Director Anwar Hossain.

The ACC had earlier launched an investigation into allegations of irregularities involving Matiur Rahman and his family members, including misuse of power and financial misconduct.

This development follows a controversial incident earlier this year, involving his other son, Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, linked to the purchase of high-value goats, which attracted public and legal scrutiny.
