Train operations between Dhaka and Tongi were disrupted early this morning (25 November) after a container train derailed near Uttara's Joynal Market area.

The incident occurred around 4:30am, suspending rail communication between Kamalapur Railway Station and Tongi Railway Station.

Tongi Railway Station Master Rakibur Rahman said, "The derailment occurred within the jurisdiction of the Airport Railway area. A freight train from Dhaka's Kamalapur derailed near Joynal Market, halting rail operations between Kamalapur and Tongi."

Rescue teams began recovery efforts shortly after the derailment. However, train services on the Kamalapur-bound downline remain suspended, he said.

"Two passenger trains heading to Kamalapur — the Chattogram Mail from Chattogram and the Sirajganj Express from Sirajganj — are currently stranded at Tongi Railway Station. Rail operations are expected to resume once recovery efforts are completed," he noted.

Meanwhile, a rescue train from Dhaka arrived at the site and started recovery operations.

As of 10:30am, the work was ongoing, keeping the stranded trains at Tongi Station.

Officials are hopeful that services will resume within a few hours.
