Bangladeshi taxpayers abroad can now pay taxes online using email-based OTP system

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced a new system allowing Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad to submit their income tax returns online using a one-time password (OTP) sent to their email instead of a Bangladeshi mobile number.
In a press release issued today (23 October), the NBR said the move aims to make online tax filing easier for expatriate taxpayers who previously faced difficulties registering on the e-return portal due to the requirement of an OTP sent to a Bangladesh-registered mobile SIM.
To avail of the service, expatriate taxpayers must email their passport number, national ID, visa page copy, email address, and a recent photograph to [ereturn@etaxnbr.gov.bd](mailto:ereturn@etaxnbr.gov.bd).
Once verified, they will receive a registration link and OTP via email to complete their e-return registration and file taxes online.
Although expatriate Bangladeshis are exempt from the mandatory online filing requirement, the NBR said many have opted for the e-return system due to its convenience, instant acknowledgement, and automated income tax certificate generation.
The NBR added that over 8.5 lakh taxpayers have already filed their returns online for the 2025–26 tax year and urged all taxpayers, both at home and abroad, to submit their returns by 30 November 2025.
