The Dhaka North City Corporation would not spare any more those who are not paying taxes by using political influence, Administrator Mohammad Azaz said today (11 May).

"The Dhaka North officials will go to your home and take legal measures if you don't pay your arrears taxes voluntarily," he said while inaugurating the DNCC Tax Fair-2025 on its zone-3 premises at Mohakhali area as the chief guest.

Among others, Chief Executive Officer of the DNCC, Abu Sayeed Md Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin and Chief Revenue Officer Mohammad Abdullah, were present at the event.

He said the general people want to pay corporate taxes, but they don't come to the corporation office, considering the complex tax payment process.

"We have already solved such problems by introducing an online system," the administrator said, adding that the residents of the Dhaka North area can now pay their taxes online staying at home.

"We have come to know through public hearings at the corporation areas that the revenue collection is comparatively less than the amounts required for construction of roads, drainage and road lights," he said, adding that the corporation provides civic facilities for all, whether they are a taxpayer or a non-taxpayer.

The tax fair has been arranged to achieve the collection target and make it easy to meet the huge expenses of the corporation, Mohammad Azad said. Mentioning the name of Basundhara Residential Area, he also urged the corporation officials to explore a new area for additional tax collection.

"We've encouraged the residents of the new 18 wards under the DNCC to pay taxes through public hearings," he said, adding that those who will pay taxes at the fair will get adequate facilities and their problems will be solved in one sitting.

Expressing dissatisfaction, the DNCC administrator said that the corporate houses are reluctant to pay taxes whereas they are enjoying all sorts of civic facilities from the corporation.

There are at least 25000 people in the DNCC area whose arrears tax is over Taka one lakh and there is over one lakh house or flat owners in the area who don't pay their taxes, he said.

The payment of taxes is the responsibility of a citizen, he said urging all to pay their taxes. Otherwise, notices would be served to them for confiscating their properties, he added.

The administrator said, "The corporation is with you for 24 hours so that you can pay taxes for the development, if we really want to change the Dhaka City".
