Son found, mother still missing two days after Milestone plane crash
Afsana Priya, a 30-year-old mother, remains missing two days after a Bangladesh Air Force fighter plane crashed into Milestone School and College in Uttara.
She had gone to pick up her son, Ohi, on Monday morning (21 July) and was waiting in the school's guardians' room when the aircraft slammed into one of the buildings, triggering a deadly fire and widespread panic.
While Ohi was later found unharmed, Afsana has not been found since.
As Ohi keeps asking, "Where is Mom? I want to go to Mom," the family doesn't know how to console him.
Afsana's brother-in-law, Hasibul Hasan, said the family rushed to hospitals and the crash site immediately after the incident and has since contacted all relevant authorities, including the army. "They asked for DNA samples. On Tuesday, we submitted samples from Afsana's parents to the CID in Dhaka," he said.
Afsana is the wife of businessman Abdul Wahab Mridha, a resident of Mediashulai area in Chapair union of Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur.
"As soon as we heard about the crash, we rushed to find both mother and child," Hasibul added. "We found Ohi by Allah's grace, but Afsana is still missing."
As of now, the death toll from the crash has risen to over 29, most of them children, while many of the injured remain in critical condition.
