Actor Jay Benedict, who appeared in the movies "Aliens" and "Emmerdale," has died aged 68. The actor's agency confirmed that the cause of his death is coronavirus.

A statement posted on his website said: "It is with profound sorrow that we must announce Jay's death on the 4th of April due to complications arising from a Covid-19 infection."

Benedict was born in California, but has lived in Europe. He spent most of his life in UK.

He has appeared in the James Cameron film "Aliens" as Newt's father. He was also seen in a role in the Christopher Nolan film "The Dark Knight Rises."

 Benedict was married to "Allo Allo" actor Phoebe Scholfield, with whom he had two sons, Leopold and Freddie. His sons are also actors.
