The Chinese president says Beijing is ready to strengthen strategic communication and expand cooperation with Dhaka.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his inauguration as the president of Bangladesh.
Xi sent the congratulatory message today (24 August), according to a Facebook post by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh.
In his message, Xi said China and Bangladesh are neighbours with a long-standing friendship and have treated each other as equals since establishing diplomatic relations 51 years ago.
He said the two countries have supported each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns while pursuing their respective paths of modernisation.
"China-Bangladesh bilateral relationship has withstood the test of changing international circumstances," Xi said in the message.
Xi said he is ready to work with President Mirza Fakhrul to carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
He also expressed his willingness to expand cooperation and exchanges across various sectors, saying these efforts would deepen the China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.
