Denmark, Bangladesh join forces to support efficient, sustainable dairy production

Denmark and Bangladesh have further strengthened their cooperation on sustainable and safe food production in Bangladesh by signing a government-to-government cooperation agreement today (2 June).
Bangladesh and Denmark have a good and long-standing diplomatic relationship, and ensuring safe and sustainable food production in Bangladesh has been at the core of the collaboration. With this strategic sector cooperation, Denmark supports Bangladesh to ensure safe and efficient milk production in the country with the aim of becoming more self-sufficient in milk production, according to a press release.
Dairy production is an important economic activity in Bangladesh, providing 3.6 million households with supplementary income. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure guidance and support to farmers to increase milk yield and performance.
This project will strengthen the capacity of competent authorities working on sustainable and resource-efficient dairy production. As a part of the partnership, Danish experts will support by training the Bangladeshi livestock extension service with a focus on feed, animal health, biosecurity and animal welfare in dairy production.
Md Abu Sufiun, director general of the Department of Livestock Services, said, "This initiative marks a new chapter in our journey towards a greener, safer, and more efficient dairy sector – empowering our workforce with the knowledge and tools to meet future challenges and ensure long-term food security."
The signing of the project document between the Department of Livestock Services and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration is a step towards strengthening collaboration and support in capacity building. This partnership is expected to drive growth, improve industry standards, and foster innovation in the sector.
HE Christian Brix Møller, Danish ambassador to Bangladesh, said, "It is crucial to work towards a global food production, which ensures safe and sustainable food products for the benefit of the people – and the farmers producing it. I am proud that Denmark and Bangladesh are working together to ensure this in Bangladesh."
The signing has solidified the commitment of both nations to continue close cooperation in the food and agricultural sector.
This technical government-to-government collaboration involves the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration as the Danish partner, and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Directorate General of Drug Administration, and Department of Livestock Services as the Bangladeshi partners.
