Tarique vows to elevate China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership to new heights
The ambassador and the premier exchanged in-depth views on China-Bangladesh relations and international and regional issues of common interest
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said Bangladesh is willing to work with China to continue the friendship, deepen cooperation, and to elevate the China-Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership to a new height.
Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen today (23 February) called on the prime minister at the Secretariat around 11am, said Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.
The ambassador and the premier exchanged in-depth views on China-Bangladesh relations and international and regional issues of common interest, said an embassy release.
Ambassador Yao congratulated Tarique on his inauguration as prime minister and on holding Bangladesh's 13th national parliamentary elections successfully.
He reiterated the congratulations and best wishes of Li Qiang, premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China to Tarique, and stated that the Chinese side is prepared to carry forward the traditional friendship, strengthen political mutual trust, and deepen comprehensive pragmatic cooperation together with the Bangladeshi side.
China extended support for the new government in its smooth governance, support for Bangladesh in safeguarding national unity, stability, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as support for Bangladesh in opposing foreign interference, and encouraged Bangladesh to play a greater role in international and regional affairs.
Tarique thanked Ambassador Yao for his congratulations and for conveying the best wishes of Chinese leaders, stating that Bangladesh will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, uphold the tradition of friendship with China.
BNP Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister's Adviser Humayun Kabir was also present at the meeting.
Later, the Prime Minister presided over a meeting on the launch of the Farmers' Card at the Cabinet Division conference room.
