Asif Nazrul proposes boosting recruitment of Bangladeshi professionals in Maldives

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Asif Nazrul has proposed increasing the recruitment of professional workers – including doctors, engineers, nurses and teachers – in the Maldives' labour market.
He made the proposal during a meeting with Maldives Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development Ali Haider Ahmed on the sidelines of the Global Labour Market Conference in Riyadh yesterday (26 January), according to a ministry release.
During the meeting, the adviser called for regularisation of all irregular and undocumented Bangladeshi workers currently living in the Maldives.
He also praised the education loan facilities offered to Maldivian students for overseas study and invited more of them to pursue higher education in Bangladesh in medicine, engineering, agriculture and other specialised fields.
In addition, he called for initiatives to attract Bangladeshi tourists to the Maldives.
Meanwhile, the Maldives Minister Ali Haider expressed interest in recruiting more skilled workers and professionals from Bangladesh.
He also proposed that Bangladesh's leading universities organise education fairs in the Maldives.
Maldives State Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development Abdullah Nazir and Md Saiful Haque Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of Bangladesh's Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment were present at the meeting.
