BYD launches super plug-in hybrid electric SUV Sealion 6 at Tk63.9 lakh

After the electric sport utility vehicle BYD Atto 3, BYD's Bangladeshi distributor CG Runner today launched the super plug-in hybrid electric SUV BYD Sealion at Tk63.9 lakh.  

Having both options for running in electric-only or hybrid modes, the new energy five-seater SUV offers a fuel cost of less than Tk5 per kilometre in combination, said company officials at the launch event in the capital.  

On the other hand, the 18.3 kWh BYD Blade battery, which is recharged in three hours, supports a 100km electric-only ride, reducing city riding costs per kilometre to less than Tk3.  

CG Runner client experience specialist Md Rezwan Rahman said with its 60-litre petrol tank filled and the battery fully charged, the BYD Sealion is designed for a range of 1,100 kilometres. However, a Dhaka-Teknaf trip resulted in a range of over 1,200km.  

For city driving, one can have the low-cost electric-only rides, while the SUV offers cost-effective, powerful long drives without any concern for the availability of charging opportunities, said Rahman.  

The smart combination of plug-in hybrid and electric motor options, called DM-i technology, keeps charging the battery on the go.  

With a 0-100km per hour acceleration in 8.5 seconds, the Sealion 6 has a maximum power of 145kW in the electric motor and 160kW out of the 1,500cc engine. In any mode, its maximum torque power is 300Nm.  

BYD Bangladesh said car lovers will experience an adrenaline-filled driving experience. Its advanced safety technologies, including ADAS, 360° HD camera, and six airbags, provide an extra layer of protection.  

It offers a luxury experience with a 15.6-inch smart rotating touchscreen, a 10-speaker Infinity® Premium Audio System, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The Sealion 6 is available in four colours – Harbour Grey, Arctic White, Delan Black, and Stone Grey – and three driving modes: ECO, Normal, and Sport.  

The starting retail price for the vehicle will be Tk63.9 lakh for the first 200 customers.  

In addition to its advanced features, it comes with an excellent warranty service, covering the traction battery for eight years or 160,000km (whichever comes first) and the drive unit for eight years or 150,000km.  

Other key components of the vehicle are covered for six years or 150,000km, ensuring long-term reliability.  

Filters, brake pads, tyres, and other consumables are covered for six months or 5,000 kilometres. All these warranties further set the BYD Sealion 6 apart from its competitors in the market.  

CG Runner Chairman Hafizur Rahman Khan, BYD Global Representative Charles Ren, BYD Bangladesh Chief Marketing Officer Imtiaz Nawsher, Strategy and Digital Marketing Lead Shahnuma Sharmin spoke at the launch event.  

BYD, the world's top EV seller based in China, officially entered Bangladesh in early 2024, making CG Runner its sole distributor.
