Govt explores BYD EVs for water resources ministry fleet
Speakers say EVs could reduce fuel consumption and emissions as government considers wider adoption.
The government is exploring the potential use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the transport fleet of the Ministry of Water Resources as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption and environmental pollution.
A discussion on BYD's electric vehicles was held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Water Resources yesterday (18 August), with Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee attending as the chief guest and State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad as the special guest.
The meeting was organised by the Life-Line Welfare Organisation in collaboration with BYD Bangladesh. Speakers said EVs could help reduce environmental pollution and carbon emissions while lowering fuel consumption.
They said expanding the use of EVs in government transport would be timely in light of the government's 2030 transport-sector targets and tax incentives announced in the FY2026-27 budget. Nakibul Islam of BYD delivered a presentation titled "Powering Bangladesh First – With EVs", highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of electric vehicles, including lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
Participants discussed the potential use of EVs in the Water Resources Ministry's transport fleet and stressed the need for coordinated efforts among relevant stakeholders to expand EV adoption across government agencies.
Life-Line Welfare Organization Chairman Shams Zarin Jory, Founder Md Ahsan Habib, BYD Bangladesh Managing Director Amid Sakif Khan and Runner Group COO Hafiz Akbar Ahmed were also present at the meeting.
