Coffee Cookers-7: Dhaka’s signature khichuri spot gets a reboot
The restaurant has been renovated to welcome a new generation of customers who prefer more vibrant and spacious dining spaces. However, it continues to serve the same signature dishes and warm hospitality that have defined its three-decade legacy
On 1 July 1991, Coffee Cookers-7 began its journey as a small coffee shop, snack, and juice bar in the heart of Karwan Bazar. At the time, the area was rapidly emerging as one of the country's leading commercial and business hubs, yet there were only a handful of reliable restaurants serving quality lunch. It was established to meet the needs of countless office workers, business professionals, students, and passersby looking for satisfying meals.
In the early 1990s, Cookers-7 became a go-to place for lunch, conversations, and memorable moments amid busy workdays. For many, Cookers-7 is more than just a restaurant—it is a symbol of old Dhaka, a generation's journey, and countless cherished memories.
On 25 July 2026, Coffee Cookers-7 "reopened". In reality, the favourite restaurant never really closed. It was labelled a reopening to celebrate the completion of its extensive renovation, marking a new era.
The restaurant has been renovated to welcome a new generation of customers who prefer more vibrant and spacious dining spaces. The renovated restaurant is brighter and more spacious, with new décor, comfortable seating, and better lighting. It offers a pleasant place for family meals, get-togethers with friends, and casual dining.
Although the restaurant has a modern appearance, it continues to serve the same signature dishes and warm hospitality that have defined its three-decade legacy.
Traditional signature khichuri
At Cookers-7, khichuri defines the restaurant's legacy. Made with soft rice, lentils, ghee, and mild spices, the khichuri has a rich, creamy texture and a warm aroma. It is neither too dry nor too wet, making every bite smooth and satisfying.
The signature Bhuna Khichuri is prepared using its own traditional recipe and cooking method. Made with aromatic Chinigura rice, carefully selected lentils, and a special blend of spices, the khichuri is served with slow-cooked, boneless, tender beef, layered separately to preserve the distinct flavours and textures.
This unique serving style has become a defining feature of the restaurant's signature dish.
During the monsoon season, the Hilsa Khichuri is another customer favourite. The combination of crispy fried hilsa and fragrant bhuna khichuri offers an authentic Bengali culinary experience that has remained popular for years.
The hilsa is fresh, soft, and naturally rich in flavour. As it cooks, its oil blends into the khichuri, adding a unique taste that fish lovers will recognise instantly. The fish is tender and flaky, while green chillies and a light touch of mustard make the flavours brighter without covering the natural taste of the hilsa. It is a simple but unforgettable combination.
Another popular choice is the rupchanda (pomfret) khichuri. The fish is fried until the outside is slightly crispy, while the inside stays soft and moist. Its mild and slightly sweet flavour goes well with the creamy khichuri. Unlike the richer beef version, this dish feels lighter but is still full of flavour. Every bite is fresh, delicate, and satisfying. It offers a seafood alternative that showcases the restaurant's commitment to authentic, local flavours.
The khichuri menu offers a wide range of options at different price points. Prices range from Tk320 to Tk690. The classic Chicken Khichuri is priced at Tk320, while the Beef Khichuri costs Tk350. At the premium end, the Begum Bahar Hilsa Khichuri and Pomfret (Rupchanda) Khichuri are priced at Tk690 each.
Cashew nut salad
Coffee Cookers-7's Cashew nut salad is a reminder that a simple salad can be just as enjoyable as the restaurant's signature dishes. Fresh, colourful, and carefully prepared, it combines crisp seasonal vegetables with a light, tangy dressing that adds flavour without covering the natural taste of the ingredients. The salad includes crunchy cucumbers, juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce, onions, carrots, and herbs, creating a delicious mix of flavours and textures that is both refreshing and satisfying.
What makes the Cashew nut salad particularly enjoyable is its versatility. It works equally well as a light starter or as the perfect accompaniment to rich Bengali favourites such as Beef Bhuna Khichuri or Hilsa Khichuri.
Unlike many restaurant salads that are served only as a side dish, the Cashew nut salad is enjoyable on its own. Its fresh ingredients, crisp texture, and colourful presentation show the care taken in its preparation. Light but full of flavour, it pairs perfectly with the restaurant's rich and hearty dishes while adding a refreshing contrast to the meal. Whether you are looking for a healthier choice or want something fresh to balance a filling meal, the Cashew nut salad is a great addition to the menu.
The Cashew nut salad is priced at Tk390 for a single serving and Tk690 for a plate suitable for two people.
Lacchi
Coffee Cookers-7's Lacchi is a cool and refreshing drink that pairs well with the restaurant's popular dishes. Made with fresh yoghurt, chilled milk, and sugar, it has a smooth, creamy texture and a mild sweet-and-tangy taste. Served cold, it is a great choice on hot days and goes well with rich dishes like Beef Bhuna Khichuri and other spicy meals.
The Lacchi is made fresh every day, giving it a light and natural flavour that people of all ages can enjoy. It is not overly sweet, making it a perfect drink for both lunch and dinner. Whether you enjoy it with your meal or on its own, it is a refreshing way to cool down. Simple, creamy, and delicious, the Lacchi is a timeless favourite that completes the dining experience at Coffee Cookers-7.
The Salt Lassi is priced at Tk130, while the Mango Lassi costs Tk170.
Besides its signature khichuri, Cookers-7 has remained equally popular over the years for its cutlets, club sandwiches, spicy frezy, lunch boxes, and combo meals.
