Who will play Masud Rana?

The search for the iconic spy hero Masud Rana started off as a huge project. Speculations were rife over who will be the Bangladeshi answer to James Bond for the upcoming eponymous movie.

Two months down the road, and cracks have started to unfold over the process of picking up the protagonist role. Although a Television Reality show titled “Men’s Fair & Lovely- Channel-I hero, Ke hobe Masud Rana” was supposed to pick up someone for the lead role, now according to the producers they are not sure whether the reality show will have the last say on the matter.

Alimullal Khokhon, CEO of Jazz Multimedia, the production company behind the movie, said, “We cannot confirm who would play the role of Masud Rana. This is a team decision and three organizations are included in our project. Everything depends upon the consensus among the team. The hero can be either selected from the reality show contestants or from outside.”

Now the question arises, what is the fate of the reality show then?

When contacted, Director of Marketing, Channel-I and the director of the reality show, Ibne Hasan Khan said, “The tagline ‘Ke Hobe Masud Rana’ will be removed from the show. The winner of the show may not be the hero in movie. He will get the title ‘Fair and Lovely Channel-I the Hero-2019’ instead and also get opportunities to work in Channel I dramas and telefilms.”

Meanwhile, the Hollywood team for the movie Masud Rana recently came to Bangladesh for taking auditions for it. A lot of actors auditioned for the role. It was learned that most probable candidate for Masud Rana was Dhaka Attack actor, A B M Sumon.

“A B M Sumon has auditioned for the part but nothing could be confirmed yet. A lot of people were auditioned by the Hollywood team,’ added Alimullal Khokhon.

When asked about retaining the tagline Ibne Hasan Khan said, “The shooting part for “Ke Hobe Masud Rana’ was done from the start. So, we have decided to go on with it.”

The upcoming movie is being made on the popular Masud Rana book Dhongsho Pahar. Jazz Multimedia has bought the copyright for the book from author Qazi Anwar Hussain. Apart from Dhongsho Pahar, Jazz Multimedia has also brought the rights to Bharotnatyam and Shornomrigo.
