US trade envoy meets FBCCI administrator, bilateral trade agreement discussed

US Commercial Counselor (Trade) Paul G Frost called on Md Hafizur Rahman, the administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), this morning (19 August) at the FBCCI office in Dhaka's Motijheel.
During the meeting, Hafizur proposed exploring a trade agreement between Bangladesh and the United States, stressing the need to boost bilateral trade amid growing global competition.
The discussion focused on enhancing trade relations, expanding market access, and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Hafizur highlighted the long-standing trade relationship with the US, noting that it remains one of the largest markets for Bangladeshi exports, particularly ready-made garments.
He cautioned that to fully leverage trade potential and supply chain advantages, timely action on a formal agreement is critical.
Frost emphasised the importance of stronger business networks and encouraged Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to participate in the upcoming investment summit in the United States. He also highlighted the need to strengthen broader cooperation alongside trade.
Hafizur expressed appreciation to the US government for reducing reciprocal tariffs on Bangladeshi products.
