The Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited reported that it incurred a loss of Tk9.64 crore in the April-June quarter of this year.
According to the company's financial statement published on its website today (30 July), its loss per share stood at Tk7.05 during the quarter. In the same quarter of the previous year, its profit was Tk18.78 crore and earnings per share of Tk13.73.
During the second quarter, Bata's revenue dropped by 40% to Tk158 crore, compared to the same period the previous year.
In the first half of this year, its revenue fell by 5% to Tk514.66 crore, and the net profit dropped by 27% to Tk27.18 crore. At the end of June 2025, its earnings per share stood at Tk19.87.
The company said in its statement, revenue and profit have been impacted by exceptional circumstances.
Several retail locations were affected by acts of vandalism, which disrupted operations and had a material impact on financial performance, it added.
These events, while unprecedented, highlighted the company's resilience and the strength of its stakeholder relationships, Bata said.
In April, pro-Palestine protesters vandalised branches of American fast-food chains KFC and Domino's Pizza, along with several Bata outlets, in cities including Sylhet, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, and Cumilla, among others.
Following the incidents, Bata issued a statement addressing the situation, saying, "We are aware of the misinformation circulating that falsely claims Bata is an Israeli-owned company or has any political involvement in the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
"Bata is a privately held, family-owned multinational company founded in the Czech Republic, with no political affiliations."
