CFA Institute scholarship crosses Tk1 crore in Bangladesh

CFA Society Bangladesh has successfully awarded 82 scholarships to CFA Level I candidates for 2021 and the total monetary value of the scholarships has crossed Tk1 crore.

Each year, CFA Institute offers this scholarship with the help of local societies and Bangladesh gets special allocation in this regard, according to a statement by CFA Society Bangladesh, the local society of top investment professionals.

CFA Institute Access Scholarship is part of CFA Institute's annual commitment to promote the highest standards of ethics, education and professional excellence in the investment management industry. The scholarship reduces the exam registration cost to $250 from $1,150.

Additionally, CFA Institute allows this opportunity to regulators of the industry and other academic institutes.

The Bangladesh Bank, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission and Dhaka Stock Exchange officials receive 80 scholarships for the CFA programme, which reduce their exam fee to $350 from $1,150.

"This shows CFA Institute's strong commitment to help develop professionals in this market. We get a significant amount of scholarships every year in Bangladesh, which in my knowledge is the highest offered to candidates in Bangladesh by any professional body," said Md Shaheen Iqbal CFA, president of CFA Society Bangladesh.

The scholarship will help enhance accessibility of the CFA programme to a wider range of candidates and give them an opportunity to advance in their career.

The access scholarship is open for anyone who wishes to pursue the CFA programme.

To apply, students must open a CFA Institute account and submit their application which is reviewed by a group of CFA charterholders from CFA Society Bangladesh. The access scholarship primarily investigates the financial need and interest of the candidate to pursue the CFA programme.

This year, the deadline for the scholarship application was September 15, 2020, and the scholarship was awarded on November 11.

The CFA Institute is the global association of investment professionals that sets the standard for professional excellence and credentials. The organisation is a champion of ethical behaviour in investment markets and a respected source of knowledge in the global financial community.

There are more than 165,000 CFA charterholders worldwide in 164 markets.

CFA Society Bangladesh, a member society of CFA Institute, plays an important role in providing continuing education and networking opportunities to its members and contributing to the development of the financial service industry and the investment management profession in the country.

The society, already having over 100 members within five years of its journey, aims to achieve, foster and maintain high standards of ethics and professionalism for its members and stakeholders in the areas of investment analysis, portfolio management and related disciplines in Bangladesh.
