Prominent business leaders have strongly condemned the attack on the attack on Deputy Managing Director of Mahmud Jeans Ltd Rafee Mahmud in Gazipur's Kaliakoir on 28 November.

In a joint statement today (30 November), industry representatives expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasising that such violence is not just an attack on an individual but an affront to the entire industry.

"This heinous act has sent shockwaves through every entrepreneurial family and will deter future investments, both home and abroad," they noted.

The joint statement was signed by leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Employers Federation, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Bangladesh Chamber of Industries, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Bangladesh Garment Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association,  Bangladesh Youth Leaders Association (BYLA), and Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB)

The business leaders have demanded swift justice, calling for the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of all those involved.

They also urged the government to take robust measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and to ensure the security of the ready-made garment (RMG) industry and all other industries in the country.

Leaders highlighted that certain groups are engaging in destabilising activities targeting the RMG industry and economy. "It is imperative to identify these groups and bring them to justice under the law."

They warned that failing to ensure the safety of industry stakeholders could jeopardise the country's economic progress.

They also called upon the government to prioritise industrial security during this critical phase of development.

"Without adequate protection for the industry, the future of the nation's economy remains uncertain," the statement added.
