BSCIC to set up 3 more industrial parks in Chattogram
The proposed parks are likely to create about 5 lakh employment opportunities
Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has undertaken a comprehensive project to set up three more industrial parks in Chattogram to accelerate domestic and foreign investment, boost salt industry, and encourage local women entrepreneurs to build an industrialised Bangladesh by 2041.
Md. Mostaque Hassan, chairman of BSCIC, visited a 100-acre land site at Charandwip on the banks of the river Karnafuli in Chattogram's Boalkhali upazila earlier on 7 December for setting up a salt industry park and women entrepreneur industrial park.
He also viewed a potential 500-acre land at Chattogram's Patiya upazila to set up a multisectoral industrial park, according to a press release.

Earlier on 6 December 2020, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation chairman met Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, member of the parliament from Chattogram – 12, to discuss the establishment of the parks which have the potential to create about five lakh employment opportunities.
Currently, there are five industrial cities in Chattogram at Fauzdarhat, Sholashahar, Kalurghat, Patiya, and Mirsarai. Another industrial park is under construction on a 35-acre site at Raozan of the same district.
The total area of the five existing industrial cities of Chattogram is about 150.41 acres. The number of manufacturing industrial units is 195 out of which 85 units are export-oriented.
At present, about 1 lakh 44 thousand 360 women and men are employed in industrial areas.
The five BSCIC industrial cities produce light engineering equipment, readymade garments, ceramic and non-metallic products, chemical and allied products, packaging, timber and forestry, food and food products, leather, rubber and rubber products.
