Germany keen to boost trade ties with Bangladesh: Envoy
Also praised Bangladesh's growing economic capacity

Germany is keen to work with Bangladesh to enhance bilateral trade relations, newly appointed Ambassador Dr Rüdiger Lotz said today (7 October).
The envoy made the remark during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the Bangladesh Secretariat, according to a press release.
The two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
At the meeting, the commerce adviser said Bangladesh and Germany enjoy excellent bilateral trade relations, but diversification is necessary to further strengthen the partnership and create mutual benefits.
He noted that after the United States, Germany is Bangladesh's second-largest export destination, accounting for 10.96% of the country's total export earnings.
Bashir urged German importers to increase imports of Bangladeshi products, including ready-made garments, home textiles, pharmaceuticals, plastic goods, footwear, bicycles, and leather products.
Ambassador Lotz reaffirmed that Germany would continue to support ongoing initiatives to promote economic cooperation and advance the process of trade diversification.
He also praised Bangladesh's growing economic capacity.
According to official data, Bangladesh exported goods worth $4,850.89 million to Germany and imported $940.60 million in the 2023–2024 fiscal year, the release added.
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy Enza Kristen were also present at the meeting.
