Ehsan elected president of Bangladesh Employers' Federation
Ehsan has served three terms as an executive committee member of the BEF
Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, a prominent figure in the country's apparel sector and managing director of the LEED Platinum-rated green factory Fatullah Apparels Ltd, has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF).
Concurrently, Tahmid Ahmed was re-elected as vice president for the 2025-2027 term.
The announcement was made through a press release from the Federation today (31 July), following the BEF's 27th annual general meeting (AGM) held at its Gulshan office, presided over by outgoing president Ardashir Kabir.
According to the release, Ehsan brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to ethical and sustainable business practices to his new role. He currently serves as the executive president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), where he has been a vocal advocate for fair pricing and robust worker welfare initiatives.
His dedication to these principles is further evidenced by his founding of BKMEA's Responsible Business Hub.
His influence extends beyond the knitwear sector to broader industrial policy.
Ehsan has served three terms as an executive committee member of the Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF), which stands as the country's only ILO-recognised employers' organisation.
His contributions also encompass labour policy reform, as he is actively involved in both the labour law and rules amendment committees. Committed to enhancing labour relations, he is also an esteemed member of the government-gazetted Bangladesh Labour Law Reform Commission.
Furthermore, Ehsan holds international roles, serving as a board member of the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and as chairman of the STAR Network, a cross-Asian alliance uniting garment producer associations from various Asian countries.
Meanwhile, Tahmid Ahmed is the director of Bengal Glass Works Limited. He has dedicated nearly 45 years to the manufacturing sector and has previously served multiple terms as a committee member of BEF.
Ahmed received his early education in Dhaka before attending schools in England and Scotland. He completed his Cambridge University Overseas School Certificate in 1972, followed by a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) from Dhaka College in 1976.
