Ecnec approves two more metro rail projects
The approval came from a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at NEC auditorium in Dhaka

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved two more metro rail projects today for two new metro-rail lines totaling 51.24 km in Dhaka city.
One route will be built from Hemayetpur to Bhatara, another route from the airport to Kamalapur, this route will have an extension from Natunbazar to Purbachal covering 31km, and will be completed by December 2026.
The approval came from a meeting presided by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the NEC auditorium in Dhaka.
Scheduled to be completed by December 2028, the projects will be constructed at an estimated cost of over Tk41,238 crores, of which Tk29,111 crores will come from the Japan International co-operation Agency (Jica).
Planning Minister MA Manan explained the details of the approved projects in a press briefing after the meeting.
"ECNEC approved 10 projects for a total cost of Tk.1,00,025 crore. The government will provide Tk. 30,466 crore from its own funds," said Minister Mannan.
The minister also said, the 20km MRT Line 5 North will extend from Hemayetpur in Savar to Bhatara in the capital via Aminbazar, Gabtoli, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-10, Mirpur-14, Kochukhet, Banani and Gulshan-2.
The 20km metro rail MRT Line 5 will incorporate a 13km underground line and a 6km elevated line. The project also includes buying 198 coaches for the metro rail.
The second project, MRT Line 1, will be built at a proposed cost of over Tk52,561 crores, of which Jica will provide over Tk39,450 crores.
This second project includes a 20km underground line and over 11km of elevated line.
