Workshop on basic to advanced flow cytometry held over two days

On May 1, 2025, the Young Haematologists of Bangladesh organised a two-day workshop titled "Flow Cytometry: From Basic to Advanced" at the Radisson Blue Hotel in Dhaka.
Professor Ng Heng Joo, Senior Consultant and Head of Department, Haematology Department, Singapore General Hospital, and Ms Vijaya Rao, Director of the International Collaboration Office, SingHealth, attended the event. On the concluding day of the workshop, certificates were awarded to the participating young haematologists from Bangladesh by Mr Syed S Kaiser Kabir, CEO and Managing Director of Renata PLC. In his closing speech, he mentioned that the event, involving experts from Singapore General Hospital and young blood disorder specialists from Bangladesh, was undoubtedly a remarkable opportunity to foster strong relationships. He noted that about 87 young haematologists from Bangladesh participated in the workshop.
Renata PLC, as the scientific partner of this event, encouraged the development of young doctors' skills in blood disorder research. He pointed out that Bangladesh, with its large population, has only around 200 blood disorder specialists, far less than the country's needs. Singapore General Hospital's reputation in cancer treatment is well known. The rapidly increasing cancer rates in Bangladesh are concerning, as cancer treatment is very costly. Many Bangladeshis are unable to afford such treatment.
Cancer diagnostic facilities are crucial for effective treatment, but such facilities are limited in Bangladesh. Renata PLC establishes laboratories where doctors and researchers work on diagnostic methods to prevent blood disorders and cancer.
Dr Manirul Islam, Scientific Secretary of Bangladesh Haematology Society, stated that this workshop would help young doctors in Bangladesh gain more modern insights into blood disorder treatment.
During the event, Professor Dr Amin Lutful Kabir, President of the Haematology Society of Bangladesh, and Dr. Md. Adnan Hasan Masud, Secretary General, along with young haematologists, were present.
