Uttara University concludes largest-ever sports week
Uttara University's largest inter-departmental sports competition concluded after a week of VC Sports Week 2026, with 540 students competing in six sporting categories.
Organised by the Uttara University Sports Club under the Office of Student Affairs, the competition began on 27 July and ended on 3 August with a prize-giving ceremony and cultural programme, according to a press release. The university invited students, faculty members, administrative staff and guests to attend.
The tournament featured cricket, football, badminton, chess, carrom and table tennis.
It was dedicated to Uttara University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha in recognition of her support in fostering leadership, integrity, and physical well-being among students.
Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha attended the closing ceremony with a member of the university's Board of Trustees and other officials.
Deans of different faculties, department heads, faculty members, administrative staff and students also attended to encourage the athletes.
During the ceremony, the vice-chancellor and guests presented trophies, medals and certificates to the champions, runners-up and leading individual performers across the different events.
Congratulating the participants, Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha said, "Sport is not merely about winning or losing on the field; it teaches students discipline, leadership, resilience and mutual respect.
"Beyond textbooks and classrooms, physical fitness and mental development help shape students into responsible citizens of the future.
"The spirit with which every student participated and competed honestly in this event is our greatest success."
A cultural programme followed the prize-giving ceremony, beginning with musical performances by Uttara University students.
The evening's main attraction was a live concert by popular youth bands Encore and Eden's Garden.
The bands' performances created a festive atmosphere for the faculty members, officials and students attending the event.
Uttara University reaffirmed its commitment to organising similar sporting and co-curricular initiatives to support students' overall development and promote an active campus life beyond the classroom.
