UNO visits development projects in Rowangchhari
Rowangchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mehedi Hasan Kawsar visited key development projects implemented by World Vision Bangladesh and its partner, the Humanitarian Foundation, across Bandarban's Rowangchhari upazila, to observe their impact and progress.
On Thursday (4 September) morning, he attended the inauguration of a deep tube well under the "WASH Fragile Context Project" in Chahla Para of Alekhyong Union. He highlighted that efficient water use can benefit farming, livestock, and the rural economy by reducing waste.
The UNO later visited three ultra-poor families in Bijoy Para who are part of a graduation programme. Each family had earlier received Tk 18,000 in cash support, which they used to purchase livestock, such as goats, poultry, and pigs. He observed that through this support, the families have started small-scale livestock farming, leading to improved income stability and a positive impact on their livelihoods. He encouraged them to continue working towards self-reliance.
During a community meeting, locals expressed their development needs and requested increased budget allocations. The UNO assured them that these concerns are being addressed.
He emphasised birth registration, prevention of child marriage, protecting youth from drug abuse, and community participation in development, stating these are essential for a strong and healthy nation.
The UNO thanked Humanitarian Foundation and World Vision Bangladesh for their ongoing social development work and encouraged them to continue their effective roles.
The visit was attended by Area Programme Manager Prokash Chambugong, Acting Programme Manager of Humanitarian Foundation Ubachai Marma, local karbari, the ward member concerned, and other community leaders.
