UIU, BRAC University partner for joint research initiatives
United International University (UIU) and BRAC University (BRACU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 19 January 2026 to strengthen research collaboration between the two institutions.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the UIU campus in United City, Madani Avenue, Dhaka.
Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, attended the event as chief guest. Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, and Ariful Islam, Treasurer of the university, were present as special guests.
From UIU, Hasan Mahmood Raja, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Md Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor; and M Rezwan Khan, Professor Emeritus, Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Research (IAR), and former Vice-Chancellor of UIU, were present at the ceremony.
The MoU was signed by the vice-chancellors of both universities on behalf of their respective institutions. Deans, heads of departments, registrars, directors, faculty members, and senior officials from both universities also attended the event.
Under the agreement, the two universities will collaborate on joint research initiatives, facilitate high-quality academic publications in reputed journals, and explore opportunities for cooperative research partnerships. Faculty members from both institutions will be eligible to receive research funding under the collaboration.
The Institute for Advanced Research (IAR) at UIU has invested more than Tk8 crore in research funding since 2019, with financial support from United Group. The institute has supported research and development activities across multiple disciplines and currently oversees more than 120 ongoing research projects. IAR awards research grants twice a year, and has also collaborated with national and international organisations on funded research initiatives.
