BRAC University workshop sharpens students’ translation skills
The Department of English and Humanities at BRAC University hosted a 'Translation Workshop by Jackie Kabir' for ENG 465: Translation Studies students on 16 April 2026, highlighting the university's commitment to literary scholarship and translation practice.
The workshop brought together aspiring translators and literature enthusiasts for an interactive session exploring the art and craft of translation.
Jackie Kabir shared her experience translating literary texts between Bangla and English, offering students practical insights into the realities of professional translation.
She introduced key translation strategies and led participants through hands-on exercises based on her latest anthology, Crimson Letters.
Dr Sabreena Ahmed, Associate Professor in the Department of English and Humanities, coordinated the session and emphasised the importance of connecting theory with practice in translation studies.
A writer and translator, Jackie Kabir has made significant contributions to literary translation in Bangladesh and internationally.
Her works include the short story collection Silent Noise, now part of undergraduate curricula in Tamil Nadu, and her Bangla translation of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's Between the Rivers.
She has also contributed to multiple anthologies and journals, including The Literary Encyclopedia and publications of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.
The workshop exemplifies BRAC University's support for the development of emerging translators, writers, and scholars.
