Swiss firm Sika inaugurates production plant in Narayanganj
Sika Bangladesh Ltd has celebrated the grand opening of its new factory at the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) in Narayanganj.
The event was attended by Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli as the chief guest, and Mostafa Kamal, Chairman and Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries, as the special guest.
Sika, a Switzerland-based specialty chemicals company, is a global leader in developing and producing systems and products for bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing, and protecting in the construction and automotive industries. The company operates in more than 100 countries, with over 400 factories and a workforce exceeding 34,000.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanjiban Roy Nadi, Country Head of Sika Bangladesh, said, "Sika Bangladesh is the 100th subsidiary of Sika. Sustainability remains at the core of our global innovation strategy. Our goal is to enhance durability, and improve energy and material efficiency in construction and industrial applications."
He added that Bangladesh's construction chemicals market is valued at over USD 100 million, and Sika has invested approximately CHF 5.19 million to establish the new production facility. Built on 8,094 square metres of land, the facility includes two production lines — one for liquid admixtures and concrete essentials, and another for powder-based products.
The factory will improve supply chain efficiency, expand Sika's product portfolio, and create local employment opportunities. The company also launched a new high-performance tile adhesive designed for the Bangladesh market, offering superior durability and bond strength compared to conventional mortar.
