Shimanto Bank appoints new as managing director
Md Nurul Azim assumed office as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD and CEO) of Shimanto Bank PLC on 3 February.
Prior to joining Shimanto Bank, he served as Managing Director of Islamic Finance and Investment PLC. With nearly 25 years' experience in the banking sector, Md Nurul Azim has held a range of senior positions with professional distinction.
He began his banking career as a management trainee officer at The Premier Bank PLC. He later served in key branches and departments of Southeast Bank PLC, National Bank PLC, and SBAC Bank PLC. Before joining Islamic Finance and Investment PLC, he worked as Additional Managing Director of SBAC Bank PLC, where he also served at various times as Acting Managing Director and CEO.
Over the course of his career, Md Nurul Azim has gained extensive experience in credit, banking operations, foreign trade, general banking, law and recovery, credit administration, audit, and financial administration. He also served as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and Chief Business Officer (CBO) at SBAC Bank.
Academically, he holds a master's degree from Rabindra Bharati University, West Bengal, India. He has received professional training in prevention of money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism, green banking and green financing, environmental risk management, branch management, SME financing, credit management, investment and merchant banking, and lending risk analysis from various reputed institutions in Bangladesh.
He has also participated in seminars, training programmes, and workshops on economics and banking in Singapore, China, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. He has served as a trainer on credit, foreign trade, and other banking-related subjects at several institutions.
Industry observers said that, under his leadership, Shimanto Bank PLC is expected to further strengthen corporate governance, enhance customer service, and advance its business objectives.
