SEU observes shaheed day with procession to campus shaheed minar
Southeast University (SEU) observed Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day through a provat feri, a discussion session and a cultural programme in remembrance of the language martyrs.
The provat feri began at 10:00am from the university gate, moved through roads in Tejgaon, and ended at the Shaheed Minar on the SEU campus. Wreaths were placed at the monument on behalf of the Southeast University board of trustees, the vice-chancellor's office, faculties, administrative officials and students.
At the discussion session, Professor Dr Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, vice-chancellor of SEU, spoke on the significance of the Language Movement in the emergence of Bangladesh. Professor Dr M Mofazzal Hossain, pro vice-chancellor, Maj Gen Md Anwarul Islam (retd), registrar, and Dr Masud Ur Rashid, convener of the programme and head of the Department of Architecture, also spoke. Speakers urged the younger generation to learn the country's history and uphold the spirit of patriotism.
The cultural segment featured drama, recitation, dance and musical performances by SEU student clubs. Deans, department heads, faculty members, officials, staff and students attended the programme.
