SAFA appoints Mohammed Humayun Kabir as president for 2026
Mohammed Humayun Kabir FCA, former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), has been appointed President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) for 2026. Probin Kumar Jha of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal has been appointed Vice-President for the same year.
Kabir has more than 45 years' professional experience across accounting, finance, business and industry. He began his career at a chartered accountancy firm in February 1981 and subsequently worked at a financial institution until June 1988, before moving into senior roles in business and industry.
He received the Poribesh Padak (environment award) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in 2010, and was recognised as a commercially important person (CIP–export) for nine years by the Ministry of Commerce.
Kabir served as a facilitator of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at the National Board of Revenue from March 2012 to June 2025. He was also associated with the Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry as an elected Director from 2021 to 2023, and worked with the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry for nearly three decades as a panel Adviser and as Chair or Convener of various committees and sub-committees between 1996 and 2024.
SAFA is the apex professional accountancy body in South Asia, comprising 11 chartered accountancy and cost and management accountancy institutes. It represents more than 500,000 members from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. SAFA is also a network partner of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
