Russian House, NSU host musical evening in Dhaka
The Russian House in Dhaka, in partnership with the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and North South University, hosted a musical evening on the university campus.
The event, commemorating Bangladesh's Independence Day and the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, brought together over 800 students and faculty members, fostering a vibrant atmosphere for cultural exchange and artistic appreciation.
The programme commenced with a speech by Alexandra Khlevnoy, Head of the Russian House in Dhaka. She emphasised opportunities for higher education in Russia, particularly the Russian Government Scholarship (quota programme), and outlined academic pathways for Bangladeshi students. Khlevnoy also underscored the enduring ties between Russia and Bangladesh—rooted in the early days of Bangladesh's independence—and the significance of ongoing cooperation in education and culture.
Subsequently, The Dhaka Melodiya Project delivered a performance featuring a varied repertoire of classical and contemporary pieces. Highlights included "Waltz No. 2" from the Suite for Variety Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich, "Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14" by Sergei Rachmaninoff, folk songs such as "Korobeiniki (The Peddlers)"—based on a poem by Nikolay Nekrasov—and "Kalinka" by Ivan Larionov, as well as "Nostalgie" by Alexey Kozlov and the band Arsenal. The line-up also showcased jazz, funk, and soul performances.
The performances seamlessly blended classical heritage with modern styles, leaving a lasting impression and marking a memorable cultural occasion for attendees.
