Padakhep holds awareness event on gender-based violence, cyber harassment
Padakhep, a development organisation with a 40-year history, organised an event titled "Know, Speak Up, Stop Violence" to raise awareness about preventing gender-based violence and promoting a safe, supportive and dignified workplace and society.
Held today (22 September) at Padakhep's head office, the event brought together officials and employees from different levels of the organisation through both in-person and online participation, according to the press release.
The event focused on strengthening awareness and understanding of gender-based violence, cyberbullying, cyber harassment and safe parenting.

Discussions covered different forms of violence and their early warning signs, ways to challenge common misconceptions, and how to identify and address potential risks in workplaces and online spaces.
Participants also discussed the legal rights, protection mechanisms and support services available to survivors of violence.
The event highlighted the importance of responsible parenting and creating safer, more respectful environments for children, families, and communities.
Padakhep Founder and President ABM Siddique inaugurated the event and highlighted the shared responsibility of individuals and institutions in preventing violence.
He emphasised that speaking up through appropriate channels when necessary and standing beside survivors can play an important role in creating a safer environment.
Speaking at the event, Padakhep Joint Director of Microfinance Operation and Head of Safeguarding Shazib Hasnat highlighted key aspects of safeguarding and gender-based violence.
He emphasised the importance of recognising different forms of violence and their early warning signs, identifying potential risks and ensuring that every individual plays a responsible role in creating a safe workplace.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of the Women Support and Investigation Division Liza Begum, PSC, attended as a special speaker.
She discussed the legal rights and protection available to survivors of violence, as well as the appropriate procedures for reporting incidents.
Liza emphasised the importance of speaking up and reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities rather than remaining silent, and seeking assistance from law enforcement agencies whenever necessary.
She also briefed participants on accessing essential support and services through 999 and 109, among other available mechanisms.
Padakhep said initiatives such as the event can help employees develop a clearer understanding of gender-based violence, identify potential risks and take appropriate action when necessary.
Such efforts can also contribute to strengthening a workplace culture based on safety, mutual respect and responsibility, the organisation said.
Padakhep Joint Director of the Brand and Communications Division, Ummay Sumaiya Mutiatur Rasul, moderated the event.
