Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) welcomed its new cohort of students for the Spring 2025 session with an orientation programme today at 10:30 am in the university's Ibrahimi Auditorium.
Professor Dr Rashid-e-Mahbub, Trustee of BUHS and Joint Secretary General of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, was the Chief Guest. Professor Dr Sheikh Akhtar Ahmad, Acting Vice-Chancellor of BUHS, presided over the session.

Registrar Professor Dr Md Zahid Hasan and Proctor Dr Nasreen Nahar also spoke at the event.
The university welcomed around 300 new undergraduate and postgraduate students across four faculties. Faculty members, current students, parents, and administrative staff were in attendance to celebrate the occasion.
Professor Dr Rashid-e-Mahbub stressed the urgent need for skilled human resources to meet the nation's healthcare demands in his address. He praised BUHS for producing competent professionals through modern, relevant education. "While doctors offer direct care to patients, professionals trained in health sciences contribute significantly through disease diagnosis and prevention," he noted.
Professor Dr Sheikh Akhtar Ahmad urged students to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their studies and contribute meaningfully to the nation's healthcare sector.
Founded in 2012, BUHS offers 24 academic programmes to around 2,000 students. Approximately 1,500 graduates have earned higher degrees and are working with distinction across various institutions. BUHS is recognised as the first and only private university in the health sciences sector in Bangladesh and has earned a strong reputation nationally and internationally.
Notably, a recent survey by Edex ranked BUHS eighth among Bangladesh's top ten private universities in terms of educational quality and research excellence.
