NSU observes victory day 2025 with discussion, cultural programme
North South University (NSU) observed the Great Victory Day 2025 with a discussion session and a cultural programme on 16 December at its campus.
Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, and a member of the BNP National Standing Committee, attended the programme as the chief guest. Former chairman and life member of the NSU Board of Trustees Benazir Ahmed, a valiant freedom fighter, was present as the special guest. The event was presided over by Vice Chancellor of NSU Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury. Deans, directors, department heads, senior officials, faculty members and students were also present.
The programme began with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem and a one-minute silence in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Treasurer and Pro Vice Chancellor (IC) of NSU Professor Abdur Rob Khan delivered the welcome address, saying Victory Day is a proud and significant occasion for the nation. He said the history of the Liberation War continues to inspire courage, unity and progress towards national development.
Speaking as the chief guest, Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed recalled memories of the Liberation War, stating that Bangladesh's independence was achieved through the collective sacrifice of people from all walks of life, driven by patriotism and the pursuit of justice. He said while many aspirations of the Liberation War are yet to be fulfilled, the courage displayed by students during the 2024 uprising renewed hope for the country's future.
Special guest Benazir Ahmed said 16 December is a glorious chapter in Bangladesh's history and stressed the importance of presenting the true history of the Liberation War to the younger generation to inspire patriotism and nation-building.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said NSU aims to nurture students not only through academic excellence but also by fostering an understanding of the country's history, culture and values, preparing them to become responsible and patriotic citizens.
Following the discussion, NSU Sangskritik Sangathan (NSUSS) presented a cultural programme as part of the Victory Day observance.
