NRBC Bank hosts seminar on Islamic economy and just society

NRBC Bank PLC organised a seminar titled 'Islamic Economy: Building a Just Society beyond Riba' on Thursday at its training institute in Dhaka.
The programme was arranged by the bank's Al-Amin Islamic Banking Division, with Dr Syed Mabruk Billah, associate professor at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia, presenting the keynote paper.
The seminar brought together the senior leadership of NRBC Bank, Shariah scholars, researchers, and industry professionals.
Syed Mosaddek Billah Al Madani stated that the fundamental principle of Islamic banking is the avoidance of interest-free transactions. He noted that Shariah-based banking, through profit-and-loss sharing between clients and banks, provides the basis for a just and equitable financial system.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Touhidul Alam Khan stated that NRBC Bank offers Shariah-compliant financial services through all its branches and sub-branches, in addition to conventional banking. He added that deposits and investments through Islamic windows are rising steadily, reflecting the bank's commitment to building a fair, transparent, and socially responsible financial system.
In his keynote, Dr Syed Mabruk Billah said that Islamic banking has emerged as a recognised alternative financial system not only in Bangladesh but also worldwide. Operating in more than 80 countries, the sector is growing at an annual rate of 10–12%. In Bangladesh, Islamic banks are playing a vital role in the country's economic development, he added.
The seminar featured an interactive discussion that highlighted the importance of raising awareness of Islamic finance in reducing inequality and supporting sustainable growth.
