MIP launched to boost Bangladesh’s export competitiveness

A significant milestone for Bangladesh's export sector was marked with the official launch of the Market Intelligence Platform (MIP) on Thursday, 29 May 2025, at a prominent hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The platform aims to enhance export competitiveness by providing businesses, particularly in the leather, footwear, plastics, and light engineering sectors, with access to real-time market intelligence, buyer data, and digital tools.
The launch event was inaugurated by Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and attended by over 120 representatives from public and private sector organisations.
Developed under the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project in collaboration with the World Bank, MIP serves as a one-stop digital platform for exporters. It was built by a consortium led by LightCastle Partners, Shooting Star Limited—a leading technology company in Bangladesh, and the renowned U.S.-based NKSoft Corporation.
Md Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary and EC4J Project Director, stated: "To compete globally, we must empower locally. The Ministry of Commerce is committed to equipping every exporter with the tools and intelligence they need to thrive."
Didarul Alam Sunny, CEO of Shooting Star Limited and Strategic Technology Lead of MIP, said:
"The Market Intelligence Platform is a game-changer for Bangladesh's exports. Over the next five years, it can significantly boost export performance across light engineering, leather, plastics, and footwear—accelerating our journey toward smarter, more competitive global trade."
Mahbubur Rahman added: "With the launch of the Market Intelligence Platform, we are putting actionable data into the hands of our exporters—especially SMEs—so they can compete with confidence in global markets."
Hosna Ferdous Sumi, a World Bank representative, noted: "Our vision is to create an enabling environment where exporters no longer guess but grow—based on data, insights, and market linkages."
The event concluded with a panel discussion titled "Accelerating Bangladesh's Export Diversification," featuring insights from stakeholders, including BIDA, the World Bank, trade bodies, and leading exporters.
