Mercantile Bank holds annual business summit 2026
Mercantile Bank PLC held its Annual Business Summit 2026 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka, on Saturday, 17 January, under the theme "Redefined Growth with Compliance, Quality, and Innovation".
Md Anwarul Haque, chairman of the board of directors of Mercantile Bank PLC, attended the programme as chief guest, while Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan presided over the summit.
The event was attended by heads of 153 branches and 48 sub-branches, deputy managing directors, all heads of divisions, regional heads, and other senior executives of the bank.
Among those present were Vice Chairman Md Abdul Hannan; Chairman of the Executive Committee, M A Khan Belal; Chairman of the Risk Management Committee, Mohammad Abdul Awal; directors A S M Feroz Alam and Al-Haj Mosharref Hossain; and Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, Tapash Chandra Paul.
Deputy Managing Directors Md Zakir Hossain, Shamim Ahmed, Ashim Kumar Saha, Dr Md Zahid Hossain, and Shah Md Sohel Khurshid delivered speeches during the business session.
In his address, Chairman Md Anwarul Haque expressed appreciation to the branches, sub-branches, and divisional heads for their contributions to achieving the bank's objectives. He said that despite ongoing national and global uncertainties, Mercantile Bank achieved its targeted operating profit in 2025.
He also noted that reducing the level of non-performing loans to a manageable limit over the past year was a significant achievement, reflecting the bank's commitment to good governance, integrity, and protecting customers' interests.
Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan outlined key guidelines to achieve the bank's business targets for 2026. He stressed the importance of expanding agriculture and SME lending to support rural economic growth, and emphasised improving customer service quality through effective use of advanced technology.
He further urged bank officials to take a proactive approach towards achieving sustainable growth through smart and innovative banking practices.
