Md Rafiqul Islam joins BASIC Bank as Deputy Managing Director
Md Rafiqul Islam has joined state-owned BASIC Bank Limited as Deputy Managing Director (DMD), following his promotion through a gazette notification issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance.
Prior to this appointment, he served as General Manager (GM) at Sonali Bank PLC, where he began his career in 2004 as a programmer. Over the years, he held key responsibilities in the ICT division and other departments at the bank's head office, and also served as GM in the Khulna, Mymensingh, and Jamalpur regional offices.
Mr Islam played a central role in implementing Sonali Bank's Core Banking Solution (CBS) software and led the development of the Sonali Banking Solution (SBS), the bank's in-house branch banking system.

He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in Statistics from the University of Dhaka and has also completed a Master of Professional Banking (MPB) from the same institution. A certified Database Administrator (DBA), he has participated in various national and international seminars, workshops, and training programmes on banking and IT.
Mr Islam hails from a respected Muslim family in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah.
