Maitree power plant sets record with 700m units in November
The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) of Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), a joint venture between BPDB and NTPC, has achieved a major national milestone by generating 700 million units (MUs) of electricity in November 2025 the highest monthly generation recorded by any power plant in Bangladesh.
This performance underscores MSTPP's strong operational reliability and its growing role in the country's power supply. Throughout November, the plant contributed nearly 11.5% of Bangladesh's total electricity demand, reinforcing its position as the country's leading power generator.
The milestone also reflects the plant's industrial efficiency, including effective coal and asset management, streamlined operations, and sound financial and operational planning. MSTPP has regularly been producing more than 600 MUs, around 8% of the country's electricity demand, and the November output sets a new benchmark for the national power sector.
With its consistent performance and operational stability, MSTPP continues to play a vital role in strengthening Bangladesh's energy security, supporting industries, households, and economic activities across the country.
